A baby was born just the other day. He came to the world in the usual way. The dad was happy and proud but he was way too busy to see the little guy learn how to walk. And then he was too busy to play catch with the adorable second grader. And the entire time the little boy was growing up he admired his dad and said he was going to grow up and be just like his dad. And then he did grow up AND he was just like his dad. Except now he didn't have time to spend with his father.
If you are going to have a baby - for Peter's sake - be a parent. The best parent that you can possibly be. Because, odds are, you will grow old. And if you grow old, odds are, you will probably need care. And, odds are, it will be those same children, that you didn't make time for, making the choices for you. And, if you are like me, you will want your children to make good choices for you. Because they love you. Really love you. Not just because you are their dad or mom but because your family is strong and they really want to do the right thing. Your family has weathered the storm of life.
And then, when you are in your golden years, may you find out that your house was not built on sand. Instead your life was built on a rock. Especially if you are the dad.
